YOU are responsible for how you use it and for your personal safety and residence.
 
Below are some tips on using propane in your homes and how to keep yourself safe:
 
Maintenance 

Perform or have regular maintenance and inspections done on all propane-powered appliances in your home – heating system, hot water heater, etc.
 
Use your senses – Nose – Ears - Sight:
 
Smell: One of the most noticeable signs of a propane leak is a distinct odor similar to rotten eggs or skunk spray. 
 
Hissing: Listen for a hissing or whistling sound near your propane appliances or pipes, it could indicate a leak. 
 
Visible signs: Frost or condensation on propane tanks, pipes, or appliances may indicate a leak. Additionally, dead or dying vegetation around your propane tank or lines may indicate that propane is seeping into the soil.
 
ACTIONS YOU SHOULD TAKE IF THE ABOVE OCCUR
 
Evacuate your home immediately. Ensure all occupants, including pets, leave the premises.
 
DO NOT TOUCH ANY ELECTRICAL SWITCHES, LIGHT SWITCHES, OR APPLIANCES BEFORE EXITING THE HOME.
 
Only turn off the main gas shutoff valve at the meter outside your home if you have been trained to do so and can do so without creating a spark.
 
Once you are safely outside 
 
Call 911 
 
Call AmeriGas (1-800-805-0659) to report the leak and request immediate assistance. 
 
Do not re-enter your home until you have been told it’s safe to do so by professionals.
 
Should you need to stay outside your home for an extended period, the Clubhouse is available as a place to shelter in place.
